Volunteer with C.H.A.T.S

Sensory Days

We host sensory days monthly. During this event, we have a variety of stations set up across our property that have different sensory based activities available for kids & families to enjoy at their leisure. Volunteers on this day would be heading up those stations, assisting, and interacting with the families that come out. Stations range anywhere from our zipline, sensory buckets, & paint board to swings & sticker sheets. Volunteers would get to learn about our Movement Method based approach to learning & helping those special needs individuals in our community as well providing an exciting, stress & judgement free morning!

Barn & Land Chores!

We are never short on projects out the property. We have several clean up/maintenance days during the year. On these days, chores can range from cleaning the barn & stalls, to sealing paddocks, picking up trash, raking the arena & finishing projects like our climbing wall or trail signs. We have proudly worked with Youth Volunteer Corps of Hampton Roads, Versability, many students of Tabb High School’s Programs, Warwick Shores Academy Senior Betas, & countless VCOM medical students.

Weekly Opportunities

In addition to several large clean up days, we also have daily chores that need to be completed. We have had the privilege of working with some amazing students, teaching them the ins and outs of not only regular barn life, but our specific approach to learning & therapy. Daily chores can range from feeding horses, cleaning stalls, & troughs to learning how to groom & tack a horse. Our founder, Megan, is out there each afternoon with Cole rounding out his education load. We have had students assist her with lessons & set up horse games which is always a tremendous help.
